The contiguous City and County of Denver are located within the State of Colorado. Denver lies in the center of the Front Range Urban Corridor, in close proximity to the Rocky Mountains and the High Plains.
Denver is situated between Adams County, Jefferson County and Arapahoe County, Colorado. The City of Denver and the County of Denver both share the same borders. Denver is the state capital and the most populous city of the State of Colorado. Two major interstate highways, Interstate-25 and Interstate-70, intersect within the city limits. Denver is often called the "Mile-High City" because its official elevation is one mile above sea level.
