When you enter your state into Google Maps' search box, you see a map of the state that includes parts of any bordering states and shows highways, towns, cities and major geographical features, such as forests and lakes. Click Earth in the bottom left corner to change the map into satellite view. Enter additional features such as airports, hotels or campsites in the search box to see these highlighted and named on the map. Highlight a trip by clicking Directions next to the search box, entering a starting point and destination, and choosing a mode of transport. To print or save the map, click the menu in the top right corner and choose from the list of options.

MapQuest's mapping tool works in a similar way. Customize the map by clicking the icons above the map to show the location of lodgings, restaurants and bars, travel services, shops and activities. Click Print or Send to save a copy of the map.

Click2Map and ScribbleMaps offer a range of mapping tools, including text, customized images, overlays and distance calculators.
