The city of San Jose, Calif. is in Santa Clara County. San Jose is in the northern region of California, which is called Silicon Valley. This city was established in 1777, with its original name being El Pueblo de San Jose de Guadalupe, as a Spanish town.
San Jose has a population of approximately 998,537. It is the biggest city situated in the northern section of California. The city has a land area of 176.53 square miles.
Some historic sites in San Jose are the Cathedral Basilica of St. Joseph, the Hayes Mansion and the Alviso Historic District. The Basilica was built in 1803, but it was damaged by earthquakes in the early 1800s.
