Prague is in the Czech Republic. It is the capital and largest city of that country. Prague was the capital of Czechoslovakia, and it retained the status of capital city when the Czech Republic and Slovakia split in 1993.
Prague contains a number of interesting sights and locales. The city is dominated by Prague Castle, which is the largest ancient castle in the world according to the Guinness Book of World Records. Under Charles IV, the city gained fame and wealth as the center of the vast Holy Roman Empire, and the Habsburgs made it their capital two centuries later. Largely undamaged in World War II, the city is a repository of a wealth of Central European architecture from many periods, from the medieval to the modern.
