Qatar is located on the continent of Asia. The country is a peninsula off the eastern coast of Saudi Arabia, in the Persian Gulf. The capital of Qatar is Doha.
Qatar was once a protectorate of Great Britain, but as of 2014, the 2.16 million citizens are an independent country overseen by a monarchy. About 85 percent of the population are people from countries other than Qatar and have come to the region for work. The official language is Arabic, with English being used as a means of communication between foreign workers and Qataris. The primary religion of Qatar is Islam, which is followed by 68 percent of the population.
