Italy is on the continent of Europe located on a southern peninsula. It is bordered by the countries of France, Switzerland, Austria and Slovenia. Italy is also bordered by the Adriatic, Ionian and Tyrrhenian Seas. Rome is the capital and largest city located in Italy.

Italy has a total land area of 116,306 square miles and 113,522 square miles. The country’s coastline spans 4,722 miles. Italy has a mostly mild Mediterranean climate and a terrain described as predominantly rugged and mountainous. The average winter temperatures range between 32 and 54 degrees Fahrenheit and the summer average temperatures vary between 68 and 86 degrees Fahrenheit.
