Germany is located in the central part of the European continent. Germany covers an area of 134,622 square miles, and it shares borders with nine other European countries: Denmark, Poland, Czech Republic, Austria, Switzerland, France, Luxembourg, Belgium and Netherlands.

Europe is bordered by the Arctic Ocean to the north, the Atlantic Ocean to the west and the Mediterranean Sea to the south, and it shares a land border with Asia at its eastern frontier. Of the world’s continents, Europe is the second smallest in size, but it supports the third largest population. Only Asia and Africa have larger populations than Europe.
