To Which Continent Does Central America Belong?

Central America belongs to the continent of North America. The region is an isthmus that is bordered to the north by Mexico and to the south by Colombia.

There are seven countries located within Central America including Guatemala, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Honduras and El Salvador. The northernmost country is Belize and the southernmost country is Panama. To the east of Central America is the Caribbean Sea and to the west is the Pacific Ocean. Off the eastern shore a number of islands are considered part of Central America including Providence Island, San Andreas Island and the Maiz Islands. The land features a volcanic mountain range that has a few active volcanoes.
