Compton is in the southern part of Los Angeles County, Calif. It is also known as the Hub City because it is situated near the center of the county. Compton contains several neighborhoods, such as Leland, Richland Farms and Sunny Cove.
As of the 2010 United States Census, the city had a total population of 96,455. Since the 1980s, Compton has been thrust into America's popular culture due to various hip-hop artists originating from there. Rappers the N.W.A and Kendrick Lamar have named their albums "Straight Outta Compton" (1988) and "Welcome to Compton" (2014) respectively, in tribute to the city.
