The Automobile Association of America and Rand McNally publish road atlases of the United States. Rand McNally began publishing road maps in 1872 and became one of the best-known publishers of U.S. atlases. The company was among the first to offer its products on CD-ROM and use GPS.
AAA is a long-time publisher of road atlases of the United States, Mexico and Canada. At one time, AAA sent members who were about to take a road trip road atlases with their routes highlighted. The company still publishes a comprehensive North American atlas that features a same-page indexing system that lets travelers locate places without flipping pages, as of 2016.
