The Commemorative Air Force is a non-profit organization involved with the preservation of historical aircraft. As of 2015, there are more than 12,000 members in over 70 regional groups. The organization is based in Texas.
The Commemorative Air Force owns 162 aircraft known as the CAF Ghost Squadron. The organization displays these aircraft at air shows throughout Canada and the United States. The largest of these shows, AIRSHO, is held yearly at Midland International Airport and is the largest warbird air show in the world. The group was started in 1957, with the purchase of a P-51 Mustang, and was originally named the Confederate Air Force.
