As China is such a large country, the climate experienced depends mainly on the time of year and the region. Because of the vast land mass and the differences in the landscape and terrain, China can be faced with many natural disasters throughout the year. Earthquakes have been known to occur in the remote western mountains, while during the wet season, the southern and eastern coasts can experience typhoons. Flooding and landslides are not uncommon during the rainy season either.
