Chile is located in South America. It lies on the west coast of the southern half of the continent. Chile is a narrow strip of land that borders Argentina to the east, Bolivia and Peru to the north, and the Pacific Ocean to the west.
Despite its narrowness, Chile is the 38th largest country in the world, with an area of 291,930.4 square miles. Chile also lays claim to 480,000 square miles in Antarctica as well as the islands of Juan Fernández, Salas y Gómez, Desventuradas and Easter Island in the Pacific Ocean. Chile's largest city is Santiago, and as of 2014, its estimated population is 17,819,054 people.
