Some cheap getaway destinations in Michigan include the Southeast Michigan Pioneer Wine Trail, the shore town of Lexington and the music concerts in Monroe, notes Midwest Living magazine. These getaways are located less than 100 miles from Detroit, which makes them suitable for a day or weekend getaway.
The Southeast Michigan Pioneer Wine Trail is located between Ann Arbor and Lansing, about 60 miles west of Detroit. As of 2015, there are seven wineries that operate nine tasting rooms along the trail. There are also several towns along the trail. For example, visitors to Tecumseh can stop at Evans Street Station restaurant. Those who enjoy theater can visit the Purple Rose Theatre in Chelsea while Jackson has a strong art scene.
Lexington is located along Lake Huron approximately 83 miles northeast of Detroit. The town is nicknames "the first resort north." Guests have the option to stay at one of the many bed and breakfasts and cottages along the beach.
Monroe is located about 45 miles southwest of Detroit and is the states third-oldest city. The city is home to the River Raisin Jazz Festival, which occurs in August, and a free biweekly music concert. Visitors can walk along the river walk and have dinner at one of the city's several restaurants.
