To change your reservations on Amtrak.com, simply log into your account and make the necessary changes. If you book your travel as a guest, you must enter the reservation number to make the change.
Amtrak saves any changes to the reservation in its system, eliminating the need to reprint tickets. The original barcode on the printed ticket or the barcode on your mobile app reflects the changes you make on the website.
Travelers have the opportunity to make several types of changes, including departure time, return time, type of seat and sleeping arrangements. There is no ticket change fee as of 2015, but other fees may apply.
If you choose to cancel all or part of your travels on Amtrak, you are generally entitled to a full or partial refund, as long as you make the change before the train departs on the scheduled journey. If you wait until after the trip begins, Amtrak counts you as a no-show and you forfeit the money you for the trip.
Refunded tickets are subject to a cancellation fee under certain circumstances. Unreserved coach tickets are subject to a 10 percent fee. Reserved seats are subject to the fee within 24 hours of departure. Travelers must make changes to sleeping accommodations at least 15 days before departure or the ticket is not refundable, although its value can apply to future travel.
