The capital of Denmark is Copenhagen. It is the largest city in Denmark as well as in Scandinavia, which includes the countries of Sweden, Norway and Denmark.
Copenhagen has a population of just under 2 million people in its metropolitan area and is joined to Sweden by the Oresund Bridge and Tunnel, constructed in 2000. Copenhagen is consistently ranked as one of the top cities in the world for happiness and quality of life. Denmark is known for its progressiveness, and the first female prime minister was elected in 2011. Its most famous son is author Hans Christian Andersen who penned such famous tales as The Little Mermaid, The Ugly Duckling and the Emperor's New Clothes.
