United Airlines points, called miles and earned through the MileagePlus program, are eligible to be used for air travel, hotel stays, shopping, car rentals and cruise vacations. Miles also can be used for upgrades on eligible flights, such as moving from economy to first or business class. Miles are eligible for use to pay for magazine subscriptions and dining gift certificates. Users can place bids on exclusive experiences and purchase concert or live show tickets, including those for Broadway shows.
Points for shopping can be used to purchase items directly through participating websites, on United.com or to purchase gift cards that can be redeemed in various stores and online.
United Airlines allows miles to be transferred to other MileagePlus members and the purchase of additional reward miles. A certain number of points are required for redemption for each reward. Miles in the MileagePlus program may also be used in conjunction with another form of payment for rewards if the guest wants to book a reward without enough points.
Points are earned through air travel on United Airlines, bookings with partner car rental providers, hotels and airlines, and by using a MileagePlus credit card issued by Chase Bank. Credit card users are eligible for exclusive mile redemption offers and rewards. Rewards points also may be donated to some charitable organizations through United.com.
