Full Answer

The Keystone XL pipeline was proposed in 2013 as an expansion to the existing Keystone pipeline that carries crude oil between Canada and the United States. The XL pipeline follows a shorter route and would be made of larger diameter pipe to transport more oil. The pipeline would travel from Hardestry, Alberta, into the United States, passing through Montana, South Dakota and Nebraska.
