Madison is renown for its famous museum mile, which stretches from the capitol building to the campus of the University of Wisconsin. Along this route are the Chazen Museum of Art, the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art and the James Watrous Gallery. Theater and the performing arts can be seen at the Overture Center for the Performing Arts. Sporting events such as college football, volleyball and basketball take place at the University of Wisconsin, where pre-game parties and tailgating are also fun activities on game day.
Families enjoy visiting the Madison Children's Museum, the Henry Vilas Zoo, and Vitense Golfland, an indoor/outdoor miniature golf venue. There is great shopping along State Street downtown and at Greenway Station Shopping Center. Visitors who enjoy history can check out the Wisconsin Historical Museum and the Wisconsin Veterans Museum. Outdoor attractions include the Cave of the Mounds and the University of Wisconsin's Arboretum.
