The lowest gas prices in the United States are available at GasBuddy.com and GasPriceWatch.com. Gas Buddy is a free service that depends on users who input prices into a database daily. This site lists the average price for regular gas by state.
A visitor to GasBuddy.com clicks on a particular state that links to a list of gas stations with prices that range from lowest to highest. Each listing provides an address and the prices for midgrade, premium and diesel fuel entered in the last 36 hours. GasBuddy.com also features a user forum for comments, maps and gas prices 101, which features the average prices in a metro area. Prices for gas may vary as much as 20 percent at stations that may be only a few blocks apart. Prices are updated every 36 hours from the time they were entered.
GasPriceWatch.com lists the average gas price for each state. By clicking on a state, site visitors can access their particular city and find an average overall price. For example, clicking on New York/Valhalla, the average price of gas is $2.84 per gallon, as of October 2015.
At GasPriceWatch.com, users can sign-up to become gas spotters that enter fuel prices in their neighborhood and other areas for cash prizes. Spotters accumulate points every time they provide an updated price. The more points accumulated, the greater the chance of winning a prize. Points are converted to raffle tickets at the end of each month. Winners are selected to win prizes that range from $50 to $1,500.
