The Marine Corp Base Camp Pendleton is situated in southern California about 38 miles from the city of San Diego. This is the principle Marine Corp base on the West coast and is home to the I Marine Expeditionary Force, which is made up of different units, including the 1st Marine Division and 1st Marine Special Operations Battalion.
The amphibious and sea-to-shore training occurs at this Marine base. Reservists also train at Camp Pendleton. Because of the coastal and mountain terrain around Camp Pendleton, there are a variety of training exercises. This base consists of more than 125,000 acres. During the daytime hours, this Marine camp population is made up of nearly 70,000 military and civilian personnel.
