The Commonwealth of the Bahamas sits 50 miles off the southern coast of the U.S. state of Florida and is made up of 700 islands, some so small they are called islets. About 180,000 square miles of ocean is dotted with the many islands of this country. The comfortable trade winds keep the climate of the Bahamas great for beach fun all year round, with temperatures between 80-90 degrees in summer and 70 in winter.
As a parliamentary constitutional monarchy, the Bahamas is a member of the Commonwealth of Nations and is overseen by the British monarch. The island nation's government is very close to that of the United Kingdom, which has a two-party system.Learn more about Bodies of Water
