Asia is the biggest of the seven continents in terms of area with over 17 million square miles, and it accounts for 30 percent of the Earth's land area. As of November 2014, it is also the biggest in terms of population.
Asia is home to 48 countries, of which Russia and China are the largest. As a continent, Africa comes in second in terms of land area, with slightly less than 11.7 million square miles. The third largest continent, North America, contains approximately 9.5 million square miles, while the fourth largest, South America, has approximately 6.8 million square miles. Ranked fifth is Antarctica at about 5.5 million square miles, and sixth is the continent of Europe with slightly less than 4 million square miles. The smallest continent, Australia, has a little less than 3 million square miles of area.
