Bellingrath Gardens and Home is an iconic Southern estate in the Gulf Coast region, housing thousands of plants and flowers. The beautiful gardens are a popular location for community occasions such as weddings, birthdays and special events. With Walter Bellingrath's death in 1955, the estate was handed over to the Bellingrath-Morse Foundation to oversee the operation and keep the gardens and home open to the public. Profits beyond those needed to operate Bellingrath Gardens and Home benefit local churches and colleges.
Visitors can explore the gardens for a relaxing day or participate in a variety of programs and presentations by Bellingrath staff members. Special events at the gardens include the annual Camellia Classic Car Show and the annual Festival of Flowers. Children’s activities are also featured throughout the year, including the Easter Egg Hunt, Kids’ Gulf Discovery Day and Balloon Glow in the Gardens. The holiday season is a particularly popular time to visit Bellingrath, and visitors can marvel at the Magic Christmas in Lights featuring over 3 million lights and nearly 1,000 displays.
Bellingrath Gardens and Home is open daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. except on Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day as of 2015. It is possible to purchase tickets online. Visitor facilities include a gift shop and the Magnolia Café. Bellingrath Gardens welcomes businesses, organizations and large parties to host their events at the gardens.
