The Ouachitas and the Waters are two main attractions that are close to the Talimena Scenic Drive. The Talimena Scenic Drive spans Oklahoma and Arkansas and offers more than 50 miles of breathtaking views.
Extending 186 miles east and west, the Ouachita Mountains run between Little Rock, Arkansas and Atoka, Oklahoma. Winding Stair Mountain and Rich Mountain, which are part of the Ouachita range, are two of the highest points in Arkansas and Oklahoma.
The drive straddles a geographic zone separating the flow of water. Water that falls on the north side is collected in streams that eventually flow into the Arkansas and Ouachita Rivers. Water that falls on the south side flows into the Red River, which forms the boundary between Arkansas, Oklahoma and Texas. All of the waters that flow from the mountains eventually make their way to the Mississippi River.
