Asia Minor is located in the southwestern part of Asia. It is the westernmost protrusion of the continent, comprising mainly of modern day Turkey. Asia Minor is also known as Anatolia.
This geographic region is bounded on three sides by large bodies of water: the Black Sea to the north, the Algean Sea to the west and the Mediterranean Sea to the south. To the east, the region is bounded by the Armenian Highland, though there is some ambiguity as to the absolute borders of Asia Minor in the southeast. Asia Minor is not a governing body; it is a simple geographic distinction tracing back to the Akkadian Empire.
