You can apply for the Canada Pension Plan online at ServiceCanada.com, or in person at any Service Canada office. To qualify for the plan, you must have made at least one payment to the Canada Pension Plan while working in Canada.
To complete the application you need your Social Insurance Number and your bank account information to set up direct deposit of payments. You also need your spouse’s SIN if you are pension sharing. If you are not living in Canada at the time you apply for benefits, you need to provide identification from your current country of residence. Once your application is submitted, it takes about eight weeks to process and send the first payment. Canada Pension Plan payments begin in full at age 65 and reduced benefits are available at age 60.
