As of May 2015, passengers that are age 62 or older receive a 15 percent discount on the lowest available fare on most Amtrak trains. Some trains are excepted from this discount, however.
Exceptions to the senior discount include the Auto Train, weekday Acela Express trains and certain Amtrak Thruway connecting services. The discount also cannot be applied to first class or business class seats or sleeping cars.
For cross-border services that are operated jointly by Amtrak and VIA Rail Canada, there is a 10 percent discount for passengers age 60 or older.
Passengers using the discount need to present valid proof of age when purchasing tickets and on board the train.
