Alaska is located in the northeast part of the North American continent. It has a land border that separates it from Canada to the east, and it is surrounded by the Arctic Ocean to the north and the Pacific Ocean to the south and west.
Although Alaska is the largest state in the United States by area, it is the fourth-least-populous of the 50 states, after Wyoming, Vermont and North Dakota, as of 2014. It's also the least densely populated state, with only 1.3 people per square mile. The state with the most people per square mile is New Jersey.
