The shortest commercial flight in the world lasts as few as 47 seconds. The short flight travels between Westray and Papa Westray, two of the Orkney Islands in Scotland that are just over a mile apart. Because there is no bridge connecting the two islands, a small plane is a convenient way to get from one to the other. The plane seats eight passengers and, as of July 2015, has been in operation by Loganair, a Scottish airline, since 1967.
If a plane were to fly between LGA and JFK, the flight time would be approximately six minutes.Learn more about Geography
