As of 2015, the Star Alliance has twenty-five member airlines. The alliance consists primarily of international airlines, such as Lufthansa, Air Canada, Air China and Air India. Other European members are Aegean Airlines, Turkish Airlines and Austrian Airlines. Members can also redeems their points with several Asian airlines, such as Singapore Airlines, Shenzhen Airlines and All Nippon Airways.

In addition to Star Alliance members, MileagePlus members can redeem points with several foreign airlines, including Aer Lingus, Aeromar, Azul Brazilian Airlines and Jet Airways. The domestic airlines that also accept MileagePlus miles, includes Cape Air, Great Lakes Airlines, Hawaiian Airlines and Island Air.

Continental members can log into their MileagePlus account page with their old account information. Miles with United Airlines expires after 18 months of inactivity of either earning or redeeming miles. Members can book awards travel for most trips with Star Alliance members through United.com. Certain rewards must be booked over the phone, which incurs a $25 service fee. Rewards with Alliance members may be limited and unavailable on specific travel dates.
