More than 50 countries are located on the continent of Africa. A large part of Africa experiences a tropical or desert climate. The world's largest desert, the Sahara, is located on the continent of Africa. Africa is the world's second-largest continent, though it has more tropical area than any other continent.
It is difficult to imagine how large a continent Africa really is, but envisioning that the countries of China, India, Argentina, New Zealand, the lower 48 states of the United States and the continent of Europe could all fit inside the continent of Africa allow for a clearer perspective.
Africa features a diverse population that has been influenced by many cultures. In fact, more than 1,000 languages are spoken on the continent by the 800 million people who reside there. Though some countries are more modern and include the amenities one might find in the world's most civilized countries, much of Africa does not have these same kind of luxuries due to continual wars and poverty.
Just as the people of Africa are diverse, so are the fish. Africa's Lake Malawi has more than 500 varieties of fish in it, which is more than any other lake in the world.
