To measure luggage for air travel, use a measuring tape and a scale. Measure while your luggage is fully packed and include any protruding handles, wheels, pockets or zippers in your measurements. Stand the luggage upright and measure the length, width and height. Record this number in inches.
To weigh luggage with an ordinary bathroom scale, first weigh yourself and then weigh yourself again while holding the suitcase or bag. Subtract the two numbers to determine the luggage weight.
Measure both your carry on bags and your cabin bags. Check with the airline to find out the current luggage weight and measurement allowances.
