When a non-immigrant foreign person enters the United States, a U.S. Customs and Border Patrol agent stamps the person's travel documents with the date of entry, the last date the person may legally remain in the United States and the admission class. Those people in possession of a paper I-94 should surrender it to Customs and Border Patrol or to the commercial carrier when leaving the United States.
