Some well known milk brands that may contain rGBH are Colombo, which is owned by General Mills, Land O’ Lakes, Lucerne, Parmalat and Sorrento. While Kemps may contain rGBH, its Select products do not. Many milk brands carry labels to say when they are rGBH free.
A genetically engineered hormone originally made by Monsanto, rGBH is often injected into cows to boost milk production. Due to safety fear scientists, farmers and the public have vocied considerable opposition to the use of this hormone. Controversy surrounds the study of rGBH by Monsanto, which tested the hormone for 90 days on 30 rats to determine its safety. Later evidence contradicts this initial study.
