Two popular recipes from the television show "Martha Bakes" are pecan tassies and pumpkin bread. The pecan tassie recipe is from the "Southern" episode, and the pumpkin bread is from the "Pumpkin" episode.
To make the pecan tassies, preheat the oven to 350 F, and then finely grind 1/2 cups of pecans. Put 1/2 cup of cream cheese and 1/2 stick of butter into a bowl and mix with an electric mixer. Add 3/4 cup of flour, the pecans and a pinch of salt before pressing into mini-muffin tins.
To make the filling, whisk together an egg, 1/4 cup of brown sugar, 2 tablespoons of maple syrup, 2 teaspoons of vanilla, a tablespoon of butter and 1/4 teaspoon of salt. Add 3/4 cup of pecans, spoon into the cups and bake for about 20 minutes.
For the pumpkin bread, preheat the oven to 350 F, and prepare two large loaf pans. In a large bowl, whisk together 3 cups of flour, 2 teaspoons of baking powder, 2 teaspoons of baking soda, 2 1/2 teaspoons of cinnamon, 1/2 teaspoon of nutmeg and 1/4 teaspoon of allspice. Also add 1/4 teaspoon of salt. In another bowl combine 2 cans of pumpkin puree with a cup each of sugar and dark brown sugar, then add four eggs and 1/4 cup of oil. When mixed add the flour mixture and 1 2/3 cup of buttermilk. Put the mixture in the loaf pans, and cook for 70 to 80 minutes.
