Customers can purchase material goods and dry goods, such as cookies and cereals, online from Walmart. As of 2015, Walmart only offers online fresh grocery delivery and pickup in the following cities: San Jose, California; Denver, Colorado; Phoenix, Arizona; Bentonville, Arkansas and Huntsvilla, Alabama.
The first Walmart store opened in 1962. The store chain was started by then 44-year-old founder Sam Walton in Rogers, Arkansas. An experienced retail store owner, Walton wanted to create a chain of stores that would bring low prices and good service to customers nationwide. Walton's idea was unexpectedly successful and his company experienced rapid growth. By 1970, Walmart was a publicly traded company.
