The Maurice Lenell cookie store in Chicago sells classic cookie varieties such as chocolate chip, oatmeal raisin, English toffee and fudge brownie. Other cookies available include Chinese almond, butterscotch and raspberry jelly. Anise cookies, frosted holiday cookies and assorted tins are available on a seasonal basis.
Aside from its own brand of cookies, the Maurice Lenell cookie store carries Fireside, Archway, Salerno and other cookie brands. Its non-cookie products include Fannie May candy, Snyders pretzels, O-KE-DOKE popcorn and several brands of potato chips. These chip brands include Mrs. Fishers, Ole Salty and POP chips.
Maurice Lenell makes cookies using equipment that dates back to 1937. The process uses the original cookie dies and takes place on a separate production line from other bakery products. Because of these production challenges, Maurice Lenell produces cookies at a slower rate and in smaller batches than other cookies.
In August 2015, Maurice Lenell decided to end its cookie production. The Chicago Tribune cited outdated equipment, poor sales and pressure from the government to remove hydrogenated oils from the cookie recipe as reasons for the discontinuation. The company's Chicago cookie store continues to sell its remaining stock of Maurice Lenell cookies and its products from other brands.
