A traditional deviled eggs recipe calls for 7 large hard boiled, peeled eggs; 1 1/2 tablespoons of sweet pickle relish; 1/4 cup of mayonnaise; 1 teaspoon of prepared mustard; and, salt and pepper to taste. Other ingredients are paprika, sweet, sliced gherkins and pimentos.
Cut the eggs in half lengthwise, and scoop out the yolks. Place them in a small bowl.
Mash the yolks with a fork and add the mayonnaise, mustard and pickle relish. Add the salt and pepper to taste.
Fill the egg whites with the yolk mix and garnish with a sprinkling of paprika, pimentos and pickles. Cover and store in the refrigerator until ready to eat.
This recipe takes about 15 minutes to prepare and 10 minutes to cook and yields 14 deviled eggs.
Another, somewhat similar traditional deviled egg recipe takes 6 hard boiled eggs, peeled and halved lengthwise. Scoop the yolks out, and place them in a bowl. Blend the yolks with 1/4 cup of mayonnaise, 1 tablespoon of prepared mustard, 1/2 teaspoon of white vinegar, 1/4 teaspoon of salt, 1 tablespoon of sugar and black pepper to taste. Mash them all together with a fork until smooth, then spoon into the hard boiled egg halves. Then, garnish with paprika. This recipe takes about 10 minutes to prepare and 10 minutes to cook.
