As of 2015, Lidia Bastianich has only one torta caprese recipe, which is available exclusively in her cookbook "Lidia's Commonsense Italian Cooking: 150 Delicious and Simple Recipes Everyone Can Master." However, she does have an almond torte recipe available on her website.
To make Lidia Bastianich's almond torta with chocolate chips, start by whisking together 1 3/4 cups of flour, 1/2 teaspoon of baking powder and 1/4 teaspoon of salt in one bowl. In another bowl, cram together 10 ounces of butter and 1 cup of sugar, and then beat in 5 eggs, the zest of 1 lemon and 1 teaspoon of pure almond extract one ingredient at a time. Once the batter has a light texture, add in the flour mixture in two parts, alternating with 2 cups of almond flour until the mixture is just blended. Fold in 1 cup of semisweet chocolate chips, and pour the batter into a springform pan. Top the torte with 1/2 cup of sliced almonds, and bake it at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 45 minutes.
A recipe for torta caprese or chocolate almond torte from Epicurious calls for grinding together 7 ounces of blanched almonds and 6 ounces of bittersweet chocolate. Cream together 4 egg yolks with 1 cup of granulated sugar, and whip 4 egg whites into stiff peaks. Add the almond mixture along with 7/8 cup of melted butter to the egg yolk mixture, and then fold in the egg whites. Pour the batter into a cake pan, and bake it at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 50 minutes.
