The top culinary schools in Japan are Le Cordon Bleu Tokyo, Le Cordon Bleu Kobe and Hattori Nutrition College. Le Cordon Bleu Tokyo teaches French cuisine, while the Kobe location teaches French and Japanese techniques. Hattori Nutrition College is most well known from the "Iron Chef" television show.
Tempura, sushi, miso, soy sauce and sukiyaki are staple cooking styles and sauces used in traditional Japanese cuisine. The street vendors, or "yatai," who prepare meals such as ramen are also specially trained. Many authentic Japanese chefs teach their trade as though it is a gift of knowledge to be taken very seriously.
