The following are tips for canning homemade pear butter:
Some good brands of canning jars include Ball Mason, Weck, Bormioli Rocco and Kilner.
If a dishwasher is available, use the "sanitize" setting to wash the cans. If not, boil them in a large pot for about 10 minutes before placing the pear butter in them.
Placing hot pear butter in cool jars increases the chance of cracking. By keeping the jars in the dishwasher or hot water, they will have less of a chance to break.
Fill the jars until there is about 1/4 of an inch left at the top, removing any air bubbles
Place the sealed jars of pear butter in a large pot for about 10 minutes. This helps sanitize the jars after they are filled and make them safe for consuming after long periods of time.
After the pear butter jars finish boiling, store them in a draft-free place overnight to let them dry. Make sure to remove the rings surrounding them so they do not rust.
