Three-alarm chili kits generally consist of spice packets that, when combined, create a particular chili recipe seasoning; the exact ingredients of these vary based upon the brand of kit. The three-alarm type in particular refers to a medium spiciness of chili.
While there is not an official scale of spiciness in chili alarms, higher alarms refer to higher levels of spiciness. Although the ingredients in chili kits vary, some common spices found in them are red pepper, garlic, paprika, cumin and ground chili peppers. Having a kit allows chili to be made more easily by only having to add meat, beans, water and tomatoes to the pre-measured ingredients in the kit.
