To make this recipe gather 1 1/2 cups of chopped apples, 1/2 cup of packed sugar, 3 eggs, 2 1/2 cups of water and 1/3 cup sour cream. Also need are 1/2 cup of softened butter, one package of spice cake mix and a cup of raisins.
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Meanwhile, lightly grease the bottom of a 13x9-inch baking pan and spread the apples and raisins in the pan. In a large bowl, mix together the spice cake mix, 1/2 cup of water, butter, the sour cream and eggs. Beat the mixture with an electric mixer on high for about two minutes.
Spoon the mixture evenly over the fruit in the pan. Meanwhile, in a small saucepan, bring 2 cups of water and the brown sugar to a boil. Pour the syrup over the cake batter in the pan. Bake the cake for 45 minutes or until a toothpick place in the center of the cake comes away clean.
To add more flavor to the cake, mix a teaspoon of ground cinnamon into the batter. Top the cake with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream to serve.Learn more about Desserts
