To make a quick and easy gummy worm recipe, combine 1 package of Kool-Aid powder, 2 boxes of Jell-O, 3 packets of unflavored gelatin and 1 cup boiling water. Mix together until dissolved, and pour into a lightly sprayed 8-by-8-inch pan. Refrigerate until firm, and cut into long, thin strips.
To make more realistic looking gummy worms, combine 1 small box of Jell-O with 3 packets of unflavored gelatin in a bowl. Add 2 cups of boiling water, stirring until dissolved. Let sit for 20 minutes. Add 1/2 cup whipping cream (optional) and 10 to 12 drops of food coloring. Place flexible plastic straws in a glass and fill them with the Jell-O mixture, until an inch of mixture collects in the bottom of the cup. Place them in the freezer for 20 minutes. Remove and fill the remainder of the straws, and place in the fridge to set for about three hours.
Once set, run the straws under warm water to remove excess Jell-O. Using pliers, hold one end of the straw and squeeze the Jell-O out onto wax paper. To make sour worms, sprinkle with a bit of citric acid. Store the worms in the refrigerator in an airtight container.
