Unlike other major brands of orange soda, Sunkist orange soda contains caffeine. Sunkist contains 41 milligrams of caffeine per 12-ounce can.
Both the regular and diet varieties of Sunkist orange soda contain caffeine. However, many of the other flavors are caffeine free. Sunkist's grape, strawberry, cherry limeade, pineapple, peach and fruit punch flavors are caffeine free. Only the orange and lemonade varieties contain caffeine.
One 12-ounce can of Sunkist orange soda contains 170 calories and zero grams of fat. It contains none of the recommended daily allowances for any vitamins and minerals and has 70 milligrams of sodium per can.
Besides caffeine, Sunkist orange soda, produced by the Dr. Pepper Company, contains other ingredients such as carbonated water, high fructose corn syrup, citric acid, modified food starch and natural flavors.
Compared to other caffeinated beverages, Sunkist ranks relatively low in caffeine. At 41 milligrams, Sunkist is lower in caffeine than a Spike Energy Drink, cup of espresso or a 5 Hour Energy supplement. A can of Red Bull contains almost 80 milligrams of caffeine and a can of Monster Energy Drink has 160 milligrams of the stimulant.
Sunkist does not contain a large amount of caffeine, but it should still be avoided by those with a caffeine sensitivity or right before bed. Healthy adults can safely consume between 300 and 400 milligrams of caffeine every day, which equals no more than 10 Sunkist orange sodas per day.
