To steam sweet potatoes, gather a pound of sweet potatoes, cooking oil, pumpkin seeds and several seasonings. Steam the potatoes, and add the seasonings once they're cooked. It takes approximately seven minutes to steam a pound of sweet potatoes.
- Gather the ingredients
Collect 1 pound sweet potatoes and two garlic cloves. The recipe also calls for extra virgin olive oil, ground pumpkin seeds, fresh chopped rosemary, sea salt and pepper. You can also include an onion along with ground cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves.
- Ready the steamer
Pour 2 inches of water into the bottom of the steamer.
- Chop the garlic
Chop or press two garlic cloves. Allow the garlic to set while the steamer heats up.
- Prepare the sweet potatoes
Chop the sweet potatoes into 1/2 inch slices. If the potatoes are organic, do not peel them.
- Steam the vegetables
Place the chopped potatoes into the steamer. Add half an onion slice, if desired. Let the vegetables steam for a maximum of seven minutes.
- Season and the stir the sweet potatoes
Pour the steamed vegetables into a bowl. To enhance flavor, add 3 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil, 2 tablespoons pumpkin seeds and 2 tablespoons rosemary. One teaspoon cinnamon, 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg and 1/4 teaspoon cloves are optional ingredients. Mix while the potatoes are hot, and finish with a dash of sea salt and pepper.
