To prepare a starter for Amish friendship bread, combine 1 cup flour, 1 cup sugar and 1 cup milk in a gallon size resealable plastic bag. Seal the bag, knead well and keep the mixture at room temperature. Each starter produces two loaves of bread and three additional starters.
Knead the mixture once a day on days two through five. On day six, add 1 cup flour, 1 cup sugar and 1 cup milk to the bag, and knead until well combined. On days seven through nine, knead the bag twice daily. On day 10, pour the mixture into a large bowl and stir in 1 cup flour, 1 cup sugar and 1 cup milk. Do not use metal bowls, utensils or baking pans, because this will interfere with the bread's fermentation process.
Open 3 resealable plastic bags and pour 1 cup of the mixture into each bag. Give each bag of starter mixture to a friend, along with the directions to make Amish friendship bread. After the extra starter is removed, make the bread. Some required ingredients for Amish friendship bread include vegetable oil, vanilla, milk, flour, sugar and instant vanilla pudding. Baking soda, baking powder, salt, eggs and cinnamon are other ingredients.
