Spelt also has a lower rating on the glycemic index than processed wheat, and it has a higher amount of vitamin E, magnesium and niacin, compounds that contribute to heart health and help fight diabetes.
One-quarter cup of spelt flour contains 4.3 grams of protein and 21 grams of carbohydrates, reports SFGate. Each serving also provides 12 percent of the daily recommended dietary fiber for women and 8 percent for men. The magnesium found in spelt flour supports tissue health and encourages active enzymes.
The fiber and protein content in spelt also helps individuals feel fuller for a longer period of time. While spelt helps improve and support health, it is not a cure-all for weight loss, notes Men's Health.
