You can slow cook beef ribs in either a slow cooker or an oven. To cook beef ribs in a slow cooker, begin by putting the ribs in a bag filled with flour, salt and pepper. Shake the bag until the ribs are completely covered.
Next, brown the ribs in a large skillet with melted butter, and put the ribs into the slow cooker. In the skillet, mix 1 cup of chopped onion, 1 cup of beef broth, 3/4 cup of red wine, 3/4 cup of brown sugar and 1/4 cup of chili sauce. Add to this 2 tablespoons of ketchup, 2 tablespoons of Worcestershire sauce, 2 tablespoons of minced garlic and 1 teaspoon of chili powder. Cook the mixture in the skillet until the liquid boils, then remove it from the heat and pour it over the ribs in the slow cooker. Close the cooker, and let the ribs cook for nine hours on low heat.
To slow cook beef ribs in the oven, begin by preheating the oven to 225 degrees Fahrenheit. Rub the ribs with salt and pepper, and then place them in an aluminum baking dish with the meat side facing down. Cover the ribs with aluminum foil, and place them in the oven to cook for four hours.
Remove the ribs after the allotted time, and turn them over so that the meat side faces up. Brush the ribs with barbecue sauce, and place them back in the oven uncovered. Allow them to cook for 30 to 40 minutes more before serving.
